The existence of Chinese Indonesian can never be removed
from the whole Indonesia nation building. Since the reformation era, the
existence of Chinese Indonesian ethnicity with all its cultural attribute are
clearly expressed after a long hibernation during the former governance. This
is a good opportunity for scholars, leaders, engineers, physicists, economist,
artist, lawyers, even politicians to develop studies about Chinese Indonesian’s
ethnicity and all their aspects, including their local tradition.
More than thirty years of hibernation had caused
discontinuity of tradition. Many Chinese Indonesian local tradition vanished
because it was no longer passed to the younger generation. The inevitable
pressure of modernity and globalization is a great challenge for the late
Chinese Indonesian local tradition to bloom. Yet this condition initiate the
opportunity of revitalization and redevelopment of Chinese Indonesian local
tradition. The issue is that how do we have to respond such condition? The
response might be to rejuvenate and enliven the old local tradition, or to
create a new culture that still adopt the past tradition but facilitate current
context. Moreover, the issue grows to the position of such contribution in
Indonesia nation building.
This conference aims to recognize Chinese Indonesian
local tradition, to identify challenges and search opportunities in order to
blend those valuable tradition as inseparable part of Chinese Indonesian
ethnicity as part of the whole nation building. This living tradition of
Chinese Indonesian gathers many living aspect tradition including thinking,
ritual, sociological, language, architecture, law, business, political and many
more.
Sub-Themes for conference:
1. Whose
tradition?
Questioning the possessions of one traditions deployed in
the life of Chinese Indonesians. Referring to the historical development of one
tradition, understanding transmission of traditions between generations and the
linkage between particular tradition with authority and the life of the nation.
2. Which
tradition?
Understanding traditions as a comprehensive product of
culture that influenced by so many different cultures encountered. Referring to
find the core culture of particular traditions and its effect on the life of
the Chinese Indonesian in the nation building context.
3. Strategic
implementation of Chinese Diaspora tradition in nation building process
Understanding challenges, finding opportunities and
implement strategies of the tradition in developing nation building mosaic.

All papers must be written in English, Chinese or
Indonesian.
All abstracts and papers will be blind reviewed and
selected papers will be presented at the conference and will be published as a
specific titled book with ISBN.
The book will be sold as optional ordered.
Papers must be original and have not been published
before.
Abstract must be written in not more than 350 words with
a title and the name of the author(s). Abstract must also followed by the CV of
the author(s) and notify on which sub themes it refers to.
Full paper maximum up to 10 ( ten ) pages of A4.

The fee includes welcome dinner, lunches and coffee
breaks during conference and a seminar kit.
For presenters, The fee includes a DVD of complete
articles and compiled abstracts monograph.
Please note that expenses associated with hotel
accommodation, travels and any additional excursion are not covered by the
conference fee.
Field Trip to Cirebon area will be conducted after the
conference as an optional program. It is a 3-days and 2 nights program, travel
by train to Cirebon and bus for city tour in Cirebon area. Cirebon is an old
city at the seashore with many Chinese dwelling artifacts, historical Chinese
temples, Old Sultanate Kraton (palace), Markets. Where part of city old area
demolished by the current economic development, quickly pushed out the existing
cultural heritages. A suburb of depleted China town Jamblang will be visited
with their old houses, together with Trusmi nearby batik village.
Field Trip fee:
International Participant : 200 USD
Indonesian Participant : 2,000.000 IDR
The fee includes shared room accommodation in Cirebon in
a 3* hotel for three nights, 2
breakfasts and 3 lunches, snacks during the trip, transportation and guided
tour program. Additional 50 USD/ 500.000 IDR for participants who prefers
unshared room.
